What decimal odds show
Decimal odds combine the returned stake and potential profit into one number. Multiply the stake by the odds to estimate the total return if the bet settles as a win. A ₱200 stake at 1.80 returns ₱360, of which ₱160 is profit. This calculation says nothing about whether the selection is likely to win; it only describes the offered price.
Convert price to probability
Divide one by the decimal odds and multiply by 100. Odds of 2.50 imply 40%; 1.50 implies about 66.7%. This is the break-even probability before costs. If your evidence cannot support a probability above the market’s implied figure, there is no reason to force a wager.
Spot the market margin
Convert every outcome in one market to implied probability and add the percentages. A two-way market priced at 1.90 and 1.90 totals about 105.3%, not 100%. The amount above 100% is a simple view of the bookmaker margin. It explains why blindly betting both sides produces a loss.
Compare like with like
Prices are only comparable when settlement rules match. A basketball moneyline including overtime is different from a regulation-time result. A football qualification market differs from a 90-minute match winner. Check void rules, dead heats and overtime before comparing numbers.
Use odds as a decision tool
Write down the minimum price you would accept before looking at the live offer. This reduces the temptation to rewrite your opinion around the available number. If the price moves below your threshold, pass. Missing a bet is cheaper than taking a price your reasoning does not support.
Keep stakes separate
Odds do not decide the stake. Use a fixed unit or a conservative percentage of a dedicated entertainment bankroll. Longer odds can produce larger returns but usually correspond to lower implied probability and wider swings.
Final checklist
- Can you explain the market or game rule in one sentence?
- Have you checked the exact settlement terms rather than relying on memory?
- Is the stake inside a pre-set, affordable entertainment budget?
- Would you still make the same decision after a ten-minute pause?
- Do you know the time, money and emotional signal that ends the session?
